Systems in your Business

Just came across this quote from Dr Ellington Darden -

“People are not lazy by choice.  They are forced into it by the confusion that surrounds the abundance of fitness information that is available.  If these individuals are given simple, decisive instructions, they will train very intensely.  People, if they are provided with specific menus, will drastically alter their eating habits.  Most of these people, however, will do neither of these challenging things for more than a week – unless they quickly see and feel changes in their body.”

Menu Planner

I’m guessing that most people actually know this.  However when I think about all the Personal Trainers that I have worked with, I can’t remember one of them talking to me about food and what I should eat, or what exercise or rest for that matter that I should do in the times that I’m not seeing the trainer.

Is there somewhere in your PT business that you could guide your clients a little better?  Can you make a connection with another professional to help with the skills that you lack?

Any type of business can ask themselves these questions.  And asking these questions regularly will help to improve your business and your service.

Do you do old school local marketing?

When I got home yesterday I found a flyer in my mailbox.  It was from a Personal Trainer that has just moved into the area.  What a great idea!

It was just a simple flyer introducing herself to her new neighbours, letting people know what services she provides (outdoor training at the local park), a special offer for those interested and obviously her contact details.  Really simple and very cheap.

I only just moved into this area, and it made me think about the last place I lived.  In that suburb there were 4 PT studios within a 10 minute drive, 3 gyms and a few PTs that worked out of those gyms.  Not once in the 4 years I lived in that suburb did I receive anything in the mail from any of those trainers.

In this day and age of internet, Facebook, Twitter etc, I think it can be even more powerful to receive something as simple as a flyer from a fellow neighbour.  Don’t get me wrong the internet is a powerful marketing tool, but there is a lot of other great ideas out there as well.  And it feeds that marketing funnel that we are all trying to increase.

What other old school marketing ideas do you use in your business?
